Bubinga & Bird's Eye Maple: A Gorgeous Fine Woods Keepsake Box by Master Craftsman Michael Papa
A number of beautiful handmade boxes were donated by local master craftsman Michael Papa to benefit the children receiving treatment at the Lucille Packard Children’s Hospital. You will see the quality craftsmanship and design and feel the warmth, luster and beauty of the wood when you hold one of these treasures in your hand.
This very sophisticated box is made from highly figured bird’s eye maple (front, back, bottom) and cherry (sides) joined at each corner with a series of finely mitered box joints, creating a contrasting pattern at each edge. Inside the box sits a smaller box of exotic padauk and maple. The inner box rests on rails built into the upper half of the box, and can slide from one side to the other. The lid of this exquisite box is made from a beautiful reddish brown straight grain bubinga from equatorial Africa. A classically styled ebony handle sits atop the set-in lid. A gorgeous mix of natural woods, beautifully showing the unique character of each.
