The Thrift Box is located in the heart of downtown Willow Glen. The shop is a unique and popular secondhand store filled with treasures and bargains. The inventory is replenished daily and sells quickly. The all-volunteer staff accepts donations at the back door, processes merchandise, waits on customers, stocks items, creates window displays, and oversees all business and legal details of the nonprofit corporation. The volunteers also sponsor a popular, annual Willow Glen event—the Pumpkin Patch Boutique.
All proceeds generated by the San Jose Auxiliary are donated to Lucile Packard Children’s Hospital, to provide funds for uncompensated care to treat Bay Area children who enter the hospital through the emergency room and to fund other special projects at Packard Children’s Hospital. The Auxiliary is especially proud of its support for the Teen Van, a mobile clinic providing free health care to homeless and disadvantaged adolescents and youth throughout Santa Clara County and the Bay Area. Auxiliary members and friends also knit and crochet baby blankets, which are donated to the tiniest patients at Packard Children’s Hospital, and provide funding to other medical programs and family services at the hospital.
The San Jose Auxiliary is an independent nonprofit organization, and charitable donations to the auxiliary are tax deductible. It is one of seven volunteer-run fundraising auxiliaries associated with Lucile Packard Children’s Hospital. The Thrift Box is a community-oriented organization. Donations come from the community, merchandise is sold to the community, and items that cannot be used by the Thrift Box are given to local charities.
