Each year, San Jose Auxiliary members and their friends & family support a specific need at Lucile Packard Children’s Hospital.

​In 2024, we are excited to support a Toolkit for School Re-entry after childhood cancer. During and after childhood cancer treatment, transitioning back into everyday life occurs at different times. School re-entry is one of the most difficult phases for pediatric cancer patients. ​

The Challenge

​Cancer disrupts all aspects of life for children - academically, socially, and developmentally, affecting learning and memory, physical changes in appearance, and physical functions. These children - and sometimes their siblings - can experience bullying and isolation. 

​The Solution​

Build a multidisciplinary team of experts to develop a family-friendly, approachable, accessible resource tailored to support school re-entry. 

The Impact

Support positive transitions back to school, which will improve academic, social, and developmental outcomes and will positively impact every child and family being cared for in the Bass Cancer Center at Packard Children's Hospital.
